The 4-page program from the 1946 Sportswriters and Broadcasters and Inter-State Baseball League banquet piqued our interest about sports in the county in those days

The Lancaster Sportswriters and Broadcasters Association formed at this same time and held what it called its annual dinner. At least some years in the '40s this was combined with the baseball writers' banquet.

Ed Flick, board chairman of the Lancaster County Sports Hall of Fame Night threw a first pitch during Hall of Fame Night at the Lancaster Barnstormers.

Flick and many other board members were recognized on the field before the game against the High Point Rockers.

The organization distributed information and treats to trick-or-treaters during Halloween in the Ballpark!

The game produced a ninth-inning collapse and then a comeback for the Barnstormers, who won 4-3.

Hall of Fame Night '25

Tom Herr won the J. Freeland Chryst Award in 1995 and the George W. Kirchner Award in 1998. We asked him about his favorite sports memories.

There are many highlights as you can imagine,  but here are a few.

1. 1985 NLCS Cardinals vs. Dodgers game 6. Jack Clark hits a 3 run HR late in the game to put us ahead of the Dodgers and send us to the World Series.

2. September game in 1985 pennant race in Philadelphia. Vince Coleman gets on base and steals his 100th base and then I drive him in for my 100th RBI.

Luke Trainer will never forget opening day 2021 for Millersville Marauders baseball.

In the first game of a doubleheader against Clarion, Trainer hit for the cycle. After popping to short in his first-inning at-bat, the senior catcher from Conestoga Valley had a grand slam in the second, an RBI single in the fourth, 2-RBI double in the fifth and RBI triple in the sixth. If you're counting, that's 8 RBI. Millersville won the 7-inning game 18-5.
